Benjamin BROOKS
m. 03 AUG 1813, in SC, Sarah TOOMER.Benjamin was determined to be John Nathaniel Brooks father by process of elimination. Knowing that John was born in SC ab 1814 and was married in Sumter Co., AL in 1838. as being John father. Benjamin was the only Brooks that could not be eliminated as being John father after all Brooks families were eliminated in SC, NC, TN, GA and AL in the 1820 and 1830 census. I have no other proof that Benjamin is John father. Listed below is the children of Benjamin using the 1830 census of Monroe County, AL, marriage record from Sumter County, AL and from an interview with a great grandson of John Brooks. He stated that his grandmother told him that he were kin the Beckham, Edward and Abney. The only way I could tie our Brooks family into the ones listed above is if the Brooks girls that got married in Sumter County, Al were to be John N. Brooks sisters. The only problem that I have with listing Benjamin as John father is that the name Benjamin was never used again in the Brooks line. Note! We do not know the name of John Brooks first born son and none of John children knew their grandfather and John had died before any of his grandchildren was born. I have reason to believe that Benjamin Brooks family line go back into Maryland. Annice Brooks that married Archibald Beckham named there first born girl Sarah.
